Material posting and reversal

Post an item-and-lot issue once and restore its stock once when the posting is reversed.

Step by step

  1. Check the material Production Operator

Production Operator matches the physical material to the item and lot in the inventory balance. Confirm the unit and the work order that will use the material before entering the quantity.

    • Identify the item, unit, lot and consuming work
    • Updates Items, Inventory balances, Work orders
  2. Prepare the issue Production Operator

Production Operator records a Draft issue with the work order, item, lot, quantity and issue date. Review it against the material selected for the print build.

    • Record the Draft consumption request
    • Updates Material issues, Print builds
  3. Post the issue Production Operator

Production Operator submits the issue through the material workflow. The issue becomes Posted and the matching item-and-lot balance decreases once. The stock-applied indicator distinguishes an applied posting from a Draft request.

    • Draft → Posted with one stock deduction
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances
  4. Check a replay Production Planner

Production Planner compares the resulting balance with the original quantity and posted issue. A repeated posting must retain the same stock effect so a retry cannot consume the material again.

    • Confirm no second deduction
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances
  5. Reverse when needed Production Operator

Production Operator reverses an incorrect posted issue through the workflow. The issue becomes Reversed and stock is restored once. Production Planner reconciles the corrected balance before further consumption is posted.

    • Posted → Reversed with one stock restoration
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Units differ. Check the item's unit before posting fractional quantities or reconciling purchased material with consumption.
  • The lot match is ambiguous. Resolve item-and-lot balances spread across locations during setup and rehearse the selection before using live stock.
  • Output is confused with consumption. Ending a production interval records good and scrap units; check material effects against the issue action.
