Order approval and production release

Take an agreed customer request through printer planning and a validated work-order release.

Step by step

  1. Capture the request Production Planner

Production Planner records the customer order, required date and item lines in Draft. Check the part quantities with the customer before committing the shop to a production window.

    • Create customer demand at Draft
    • Updates Parties, Orders, Order lines, Items
  2. Approve the order Production Planner

Production Planner approves the request after checking the lines and required date, then records Approved. Agree the approval policy during setup and make the owner of customer changes explicit.

    • Record Draft → Approved after the decision
    • Updates Orders, Order lines
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  3. Plan the job Production Planner

Production Planner creates a Draft work order with the product, quantity, resource and planned start and end. Retain the customer-order link and use the line link where the job serves a particular part.

    • Set product, quantity, resource and planned dates
    • Updates Work orders, Resources
  4. Request release Production Planner

Production Planner ticks the release request. The workflow validates the linked order, planned quantity, resource availability and schedule. Eligible work becomes Released; an invalid request returns a reason for the planner to address.

    • Validate and record Draft → Released or return a reason
    • Updates Work orders, Orders, Resources
  5. Hand over to the operator Production Operator

Production Operator checks the released job and prepares its build. The release request stays ticked, and repeating the release action must preserve the existing result.

    • Prepare the linked printer run
    • Updates Work orders, Print builds

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • An unavailable printer remains assigned. Update the resource when maintenance starts and resolve the rejected release before the operator begins.
  • The wrong part is planned. Compare the work-order product and quantity with the customer line, especially on orders containing several parts.
  • A repeated request is treated as another job. Reuse the existing work order when checking release replay and confirm its state remains Released.
