Printing, finishing and review

Follow the build, capture production output and carry finishing evidence into the lot decision.

Step by step

  1. Prepare the build Production Operator

Production Operator checks the printer, material, model attachment, layer height and estimated hours on a Queued build. Link the customer work order so the finishing team can follow the run.

    • Establish the Queued run and its links
    • Updates Print builds, Resources, Items, Work orders
  2. Run and cool Production Operator

Production Operator records Printing and then Cooling as the physical work progresses. Record Failed when a run fails and retain the relevant production output evidence.

    • Record Printing, Cooling or Failed
    • Updates Print builds
  3. End the production interval Production Operator

Production Operator submits the interval with start, end, good units, scrap units and operator identity. After validation, an eligible Released or in progress work order enters quality review. This action records output independently of material posting.

    • Validate output and route eligible work to quality review
    • Updates Production logs, People, Work orders
  4. Finish the parts Production Operator

    • Record assigned finishing results
    • Updates Post process steps, Print builds
  5. Review the evidence Quality Reviewer

Quality Reviewer examines output and finishing results with the Production Planner. The planner records the lot as Released, Held or Rejected under the team's review procedure. The operator or planner records Inspected on the build when inspection is complete.

    • Review evidence and record lot disposition
    • Updates Batches, Print builds, Production logs, Post process steps
  6. Close eligible work Production Planner

Production Planner checks the agreed completion conditions and moves the work order from quality review to Completed when they are met. Resolve remaining parts before marking the customer order Fulfilled.

    • Record completed production and customer fulfillment
    • Updates Work orders, Orders

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Review starts before all work is finished. Inspect the finishing evidence even when a completed production interval has already moved the work order into review.
  • A lot decision is mistaken for printer state. Check the lot disposition and build state separately when deciding what remains.
  • Scrap is hidden in a total. Retain good and scrap quantities separately so the reviewer can compare output with the planned quantity.
