Draft to priced quote

Build a draft quote with its lines, then price it against a price book revision.

Step by step

  1. Open the draft Quote Specialist

Quote Specialist creates the Quotes record in Draft for an active customer, with Subject, valid until, Revision and themselves as Owner, inside the right Organization. The customer's eligibility note is read before any line is entered.

    • Draft quote created
    • Updates Quotes, Customers
  2. Enter the lines Quote Specialist

Quote Specialist adds quote lines with line number, product code, Quantity, unit price USD, discount USD and unit cost USD, and files the customer's request in record attachments.

    • Lines and request evidence entered
    • Updates Quote lines, Record attachments
  3. Record the requirements Quote Specialist

Quote Specialist records the part revision, lot quantity, certificate type and required-by date in aerospace requirements and submits them for review before the price is committed.

    • Requirement submitted for review
    • Updates Aerospace requirements
  4. Price the quote Quote Specialist

Quote Specialist runs pricing with the expected Revision and the price book revision to apply. The run checks scope, draft state, revision and every line value, writes net line USD on each line, sums net amount USD and moves the quote from Draft to Review. One receipt is recorded under a stable operation key.

    • Net values written, quote moved to Review
    • Updates Quote lines, Quotes, Operation receipts
  5. Read the receipt Quote Specialist

Quote Specialist checks the pricing receipt. A Completed receipt means the quote is in Review. A Failed receipt names the reason and the quote stays in Draft with no partial pricing.

    • Outcome confirmed or failure explained
    • Updates Operation receipts

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A line has no unit price or a negative quantity, and the whole pricing run fails until it is corrected.
  • The quote was edited after the specialist opened it, so the expected Revision no longer matches and pricing is refused.
  • A timed-out pricing request is sent again after someone edited a line, and the expected Revision no longer matches.
  • The price book revision recorded on the quote is not the one the customer was told about.
