Decision to execution review

Explain the recorded operation and investigate uncertain destination results.

Step by step

  1. Identify the approved work Execution Operator

Execution Operator opens the approved request and identifies the operation key and source revision. Check the recorded input identity before comparing it with any destination result. The approval state explains the business decision that led to this investigation.

    • Identify request and execution context
    • Updates Approval requests, Operation runs
  2. Inspect the run Execution Operator

Execution Operator reviews the run state, result reference and failure reason. Follow the numbered steps to their input and output references. A successful local operation and a result recorded by a connected destination each need their own supporting evidence.

    • Review steps and recorded receipts
    • Updates Operation runs, Operation steps
  3. Reconcile attempts Execution Operator

Execution Operator matches execution attempts by their request and operation key, then inspects the provider reference. Investigate Failed or Unknown attempts and runs requiring reconciliation with the connection owner. Check the existing result before repeating a command that might already have taken effect.

    • Investigate uncertain or failed outcomes
    • Updates Execution attempts, Operation runs, Operation steps
  4. Assign remaining work Approval Coordinator

Approval Coordinator creates a follow-up when the result remains unresolved. Give it a responsible person and due date. Execution Operator records the investigation and resolution as the action progresses, retaining the earlier run and receipt history.

    • Give unresolved work an owner
    • Updates Follow up actions, Approval requests

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A request marked Approved is assumed to mean a destination action completed. Open the run and any provider receipt before reporting execution success.
  • A timeout is treated as proof of failure and the command is repeated. Reconcile the original attempt first.
  • Several attempts are matched by description alone. Use the request and operation key when inspecting the run context.
