Post and reverse material

Validate consumption against stock and reconcile the balance when an issue is reversed.

Step by step

  1. Locate the stock Production Operator

Production Operator checks the component and lot against Available Stock. Production Planner reviews the stock location and reserved quantity before the floor proceeds, resolving any ambiguity in which balance the issue should affect.

    • Item, lot and balance are checked
    • Updates Inventory balances, Items
  2. Prepare the issue Production Operator

Production Operator enters the work order, item, lot and quantity on a Draft material issue. The record must describe the physical material intended for that run. Check the work order reference before posting.

    • A Draft issue identifies intended consumption
    • Updates Material issues, Work orders
  3. Post consumption Production Operator

Production Operator uses Post / Reverse Material Issue. The action selects posting for a Draft issue, validates the work order and matching balance, and posts the material movement. Review the returned result and confirm the issue and stock effects.

    • Draft becomes Posted with a stock decrement
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances, Work orders
  4. Reverse a correction Production Operator

When a Posted issue needs correction, Production Operator uses the same action. Status-aware routing selects reversal and restores the corresponding balance. The corrected movement retains the original issue's production context.

    • Posted becomes Reversed with balance restoration
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances
  5. Reconcile the run Production Planner

Production Planner compares the Posted or Reversed issue with the affected stock and the work order. Purchasing follow-up supplies context for components that still need to arrive from the supplier.

    • Planner explains consumption and remaining supply
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances, Purchase orders, Purchase lines

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A lot is available at several locations, but the operating team has not agreed how the posting action selects the matching balance.
  • An operator repeats the action after an uncertain result. Check the issue and stock first: on a Posted issue, the action selects reversal.
  • Received purchase quantities are assumed from the order heading instead of being checked on the item lines.
