Assessment and engagement preparation

Define the audit exercise, issue the engagement and prepare the control sample.

Step by step

  1. Set assessment scope Auditor

The Auditor records the subject, audit year and period dates in an Open assessment. The scope statement explains the activity under examination. The Audit Manager reads it before fieldwork is organized so that later findings can be attached to an exercise with a recognizable purpose.

    • Record the period and scope in Open state
    • Updates Assessments
  2. Prepare the engagement Auditor

The Auditor creates the Draft engagement and checks the audited entity and organization. Record the audit area and planned date, then use the memo to explain the immediate work. Admin resolves directory ambiguities before the team relies on a similarly named entity.

    • Prepare and check the Draft record
    • Updates Audit engagements, Organizations, Audited entities
  3. Issue engagement Auditor

The Auditor uses the engagement issue action after the preparation checks. Inspect the change from Draft to Sent and the Engagement Issue receipt. If the result needs investigation, inspect the existing record before attempting another issue action.

    • Change Draft to Sent and record the issue result
    • Updates Audit engagements, Operation receipts
  4. Record control tests Auditor

The Auditor links each test to the engagement and relevant control. Describe the sample work and enter its sample size. The Audit Manager can then inspect the engagement with its test detail when discussing what was examined.

    • Link the described sample to its engagement and control
    • Updates Assessment tests, Controls

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A scope statement describes an entire department while the planned work covers a narrower activity. Rewrite it before collecting evidence that the team cannot place confidently.
  • Similar entity names lead the Auditor to select the wrong organization. Check the directory reference with Admin.
  • An uncertain issue result prompts another attempt before anyone reads the receipt. Inspect the current engagement and operation result first.
