Specimen and dispensation handoffs

Connect specimen progress and medication evidence to the correct encounter.

Step by step

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • An accession number is copied from another encounter. Compare the visit and specimen label before updating progress.
  • A rejected specimen is treated as finished work. Review the reason through the laboratory handoff and assign the next action.
  • Medication quantities use different units. Keep each unit explicit and compare like quantities when reviewing activity.
