Order to work order

Turn customer demand into a released production plan with a checked resource and quantity.

Step by step

  1. Review the demand Planner

Planner checks the customer order and its item lines, required date and lifecycle state. Resolve the intended product and quantity before preparing production. Keep a cancelled order visible during the review so an earlier draft cannot carry it unnoticed into release.

    • Confirm the customer demand context
    • Updates Orders, Order lines, Parties, Items
  2. Prepare the work order Planner

Planner selects the product, order and resource, enters the planned quantity and sets the start and end dates. The work order remains Draft while the team checks availability. Inspect the resource's daily capacity and whether it is Available, in Maintenance or Unavailable.

    • Set the Draft production plan
    • Updates Work orders, Resources
  3. Release production Planner

Planner invokes the production release action. It validates the order lifecycle and moves eligible work from Draft to Released. Product, planned quantity and material requirements become the settled production basis.

    • Move eligible Draft work to Released and freeze its basis
    • Updates Work orders, Orders
  4. Hand the plan to the floor Operator

Operator checks the released work order before preparing material issues and production intervals. Planner follows the same work through quality review and eventual completion, with Quality Reviewer responsible for the later accepted-output decision.

    • Use the released reference for floor activity
    • Updates Work orders, Material issues, Production logs

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A required customer date is copied into the production plan without checking the assigned resource. Review the actual planned window with Operator before release.
  • A draft survives after the customer order changes. The release check must examine the current order lifecycle.
  • A quantity request arrives after release. Planner must inspect the frozen basis and agree the next action before the floor changes its production target.
