Correct scope or reverse a movement

Release stock commitments or compensate a posted effect while retaining the original records.

Step by step

  1. Establish what happened Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor examines the request, held reservations and posted movements. Determine whether the change concerns authorized request scope or an inventory effect already posted.

    • Distinguish commitment from posted effect
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock reservations, Stock movements
  2. Correct or cancel scope Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor uses the correction action to change the authorized quantity or cancel eligible request scope. Held reservations are released so that stock availability reflects the changed commitment.

    • Change scope and release holds
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock reservations, Operation receipts
  3. Reverse a posted effect Inventory Supervisor

When a posted movement needs reversal, Inventory Supervisor uses the reversal action. It creates a compensating movement linked to the original and corrects the lot balance while keeping the original movement immutable.

    • Post linked compensation and correct balance
    • Updates Stock movements, Stock lots
  4. Inspect repeat handling Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor checks the prior result before retrying. A repeated correction returns its earlier outcome, and a repeated reversal returns the existing compensating movement.

    • Reuse the existing operation result
    • Updates Stock movements, Operation receipts
  5. Reconcile the outcome Inventory Supervisor or Auditor

Inventory Supervisor checks the corrected scope against the movement evidence. Auditor follows the retained decisions and receipts to explain both the original action and the correction.

    • Verify quantity evidence and retained history
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock movements, Operation receipts, Review decisions

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Wrong correction path. A change to the request and a reversal of a posted effect address different facts. Inspect execution evidence first.
  • Erased history. Retain the original posted movement and link its compensation so another person can explain the balance change.
  • Unreleased holds. Inspect held reservations after cancellation before describing their quantity as available for other requests.
