Revision preparation and release

Validate an editable assembly structure and keep submission separate from engineering release.

Step by step

  1. Identify the revision Production Planner

Production Planner selects the product item, gives the BOM revision its label and enters its effective start and end dates. Choose the intended assembly before importing lines; similar item names require an identity check.

    • Establish product, revision and dates
    • Updates BOM revisions, Items
  2. Validate the component lines Production Planner

Production Planner prepares component lines on the editable parent. The component guard requires positive quantity per assembly, stated unit and scrap percentage within zero through one hundred. A Released parent blocks this validation. Resolve lines before treating the structure as ready for review.

    • Confirm eligible editable structure
    • Updates BOM components, BOM revisions, Items
  3. Submit the structure Production Planner

Production Planner runs the revision guard. An identified product and revision, a valid effective interval and an unreleased structure permit Draft to Review once. Manager reviews the submitted structure before deciding release.

    • Draft to Review once
    • Updates BOM revisions
  4. Authorize release Manager

Manager reviews the structure and authorizes Review to Released through the release action configured during setup. Agree Manager's decision authority before go-live. Resolve findings on an editable structure before release.

    • Review to Released decision
    • Updates BOM revisions, BOM components
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  5. Hand the structure to production Production Planner

Production Planner checks the intended revision alongside the next work order and the team's assembly instructions. Use the assembly instructions agreed with the operator. Retirement to Obsolete is a separate deliberate action when the team has agreed how ongoing work will retain its original instructions.

    • Manual revision handoff
    • Updates BOM revisions, Work orders

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A Review header is described as released before Manager decides.
  • A changed component is entered against the already Released parent.
  • The operator receives instructions for a different revision because product alone was assumed to identify the assembly structure.
