Clinic with specimen collection

A clinic collecting specimens can tie each sample to the encounter where it was ordered. The specimen carries its type, collection date, accession number, and status from Ordered through collection, receipt, and testing or rejection. Licensed Clinician records the specimen. Clinical Reviewer can read its processing state in the context of the care episode.

How Clinic + Pharmacy + Lab is set up for you

Accession discipline

Agree how the accession number on the record matches the sample handed to the lab.

Status handoff

Identify who records Collected and who confirms Received so those moments stay distinct.

Rejection response

Keep Rejected visible and assign a patient care task when another collection needs coordination.

Visit context

Select the correct encounter before creating specimen evidence, particularly for repeat visits.

Start with a scheduled visit for a known patient and move the encounter into care. Create an Ordered specimen, enter its type, then add its collection date and accession number when the sample is taken. Follow the record through Received and Tested. Have Clinical Reviewer open the encounter and locate the specimen alongside the note or observation from the visit.

Repeat with a specimen that is Rejected. Confirm staff can find it directly, review the accession number, and decide whether the patient needs follow-up. If the clinic sends samples to an external lab, agree how its case identifier and result will be reconciled with this record. The specimen status here tracks handling; the connected lab remains the source for its result delivery.
