Correction and reversal

Change authorized scope or compensate a posted effect through the action suited to the actual problem.

Step by step

  1. Identify what changed Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor reviews the request, its held reservations and any posted movements. Establish whether the problem concerns authorized scope, an unnecessary commitment or a stock effect that has already been posted.

    • Distinguish scope from posted effects
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock reservations, Stock movements
  2. Correct or cancel scope Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor authorizes the scope change and uses the supported action to correct the quantity or cancel the request. The action releases its held reservations so that inventory becomes free for later eligible work.

    • Change authorized quantity or cancel and release holds
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock reservations

  3. Review a posted reversal Inventory Supervisor

Where an existing posted movement needs compensation, Inventory Supervisor reviews the reason and runs the reversal action. The result is a new compensating movement linked to the original, with the lot balance adjusted accordingly.

    • Post compensation linked to the immutable original
    • Updates Stock movements, Stock lots
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  4. Check repeat behavior Inventory Supervisor

Repeating the reversal returns the existing compensation. Inventory Supervisor checks that the original record remains unchanged and that the lot receives only the intended compensating effect.

    • Return the existing compensation without another effect
    • Updates Stock movements, Stock lots
  5. Reconcile the resulting scope Inventory Supervisor

    • Review resulting quantities and retained outcomes
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock movements, Operation receipts

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A cancelled request still appears to consume free stock through a held reservation. Inspect the supported release outcome before allocating that stock elsewhere.
  • Someone changes the original posted quantity to represent a reversal. Use the compensating action and retain the original evidence.
  • A correction is assumed to resolve every outstanding reconciliation issue. Review the current authorized scope and posted totals together.
