Calculation runs
Each calculation run names a commission period and carries a start and end date, owner, organization, statement count and validation notes. Billing Operations uses that record to keep the period handoff visible. The configured Advance action moves a Draft run to Validated and a Validated run to Posted. Each successful transition produces a Calculation Receipt, so reviewers can see which action ran and when.

What you can do
Read the period before advancing
A run status tells the team where the record sits; it does not replace the check of linked statements. Billing Operations should open the statement list for that run, compare each account and issue date with the selected period, and write a useful validation note before advancing. Finance Leadership can then read the same period context when a payout question reaches them.
A receipt proves the Advance action result for that attempt. If the result is Skipped, inspect the run status and the receipt detail before changing anything. The earlier successful receipt remains the evidence for a run already posted.
How the work is organized
- Period record. Give each run a recognizable name and period, then set the organization and responsible owner.
- Statement context. Review linked statements and the count alongside the run before moving its status.
- Operation result. Check the receipt after each Advance action; a skipped receipt calls for investigation instead of a second blind click.
What to agree during setup
Agree what must be checked before Billing Operations advances a run: the period boundary, the statements attached to that period, schedule holds and any review decisions. Write the review outcome in the run’s validation notes. Decide how to handle a run that contains an incorrect statement link; correct the record before posting rather than treating the status as evidence of a completed review. Keep organization and period naming consistent across plans, runs and statements so a reviewer can trace the same operating cycle.
Check the handoff on an actual case
For a monthly period, Billing Operations opens a Draft run and checks its linked statements against the period dates. A statement for a different month is corrected before the first Advance action. After validation, the team checks the new receipt and the Validated status. Billing Operations then advances the run to Posted and checks the second receipt. If the action is repeated on a Posted run, the result should be Skipped. The team can keep that record in the operation trail without treating it as another posting. Finance Leadership can inspect the run, its validation notes and receipt history before using the statements in a payout review.
