What you can do
Know who is assigned to care
A care team assignment connects a patient to a clinician for a stated access purpose and an effective period. Its Active or Ended status gives the practice an explicit current assignment. Separately, a clinical privilege connects a team member to a privilege type, license number, issuing authority, verification evidence and effective period. Verification status distinguishes Pending from Verified, Suspended and Expired. These two records answer different questions: who is assigned to the patient, and what privilege evidence has been recorded for the clinician.
The Clinical Governance Administrator maintains these records. A clinician can read them while working with assigned patients. The Clinical Reviewer can inspect them during review. The practice should check both the assignment period and privilege period when planning a visit, particularly when a procedure date falls near an expiry date.
How the work is organized
- Team identity. Keep each team member linked to a platform user and identify active practice members.
- Patient assignment. State why a clinician is assigned to a patient and when that assignment applies.
- Privilege evidence. Record the privilege type, verification material, authority and dates in one place for review.
What to agree during setup
Agree who confirms license numbers and issuing authorities and what evidence is acceptable for each privilege type. Decide who ends an assignment when a clinician stops participating in a patient’s care. Define how the team responds when a privilege is Pending, Suspended or Expired. These decisions should be rehearsed with an actual future visit date, because a privilege that is verified today may have a different status when the visit occurs.
The Clinical Governance Administrator manages the team, assignments and privileges. Licensed Clinician reads the assignment and privilege records. Clinical Reviewer reads them when checking care evidence. Admin oversees platform user access. Staff should review those boundaries before importing personnel and patient assignments.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Create an active team member tied to a user. Record a privilege with its type, license number, issuing authority, evidence and effective dates; move it from Pending to Verified after the governance review. Assign that clinician to a patient with an access purpose and dates. Schedule a consultation within both active periods and confirm the team can find the assignment and privilege. Next rehearse an expired privilege and an Ended care assignment. The team should be able to identify each condition without mistaking the historical record for current authorization.
