How a Cost Accounting rollout works

Configure cost context and rehearse the approval and release actions.

  1. Set the cost context

Confirm organizations, pools, cost objects, ledger accounts, accounting periods and team responsibilities.

  2. Load a baseline

Build a standard estimate with cost element lines, review its rate basis and issue it.

  3. Enter incurred cost

Create an actual posting with account lines, then route it to Cost Controller for approval.

  4. Review the difference

Link the estimate and posting in a Scheduled variance; have Variance Analyst inspect and release it.

  5. Check the ledger

Review journal lines, operation receipts and the Ledger and Reconciliation page before the first period close.

What the customer provides

Bring the organization hierarchy, pool categories, cost object identifiers, standard rates, accounting calendar, chart of accounts and sample source documents. Name the people who prepare, approve and review each step. Provide a real case with a known estimate and incurred amount to test both the normal route and a correction.

Changing it afterwards

Change cost context with an owner and effective date. Keep earlier estimates and decisions traceable when rates or accounts change. Retest the approval action and variance release after changing access or source mappings. Use the data model to inspect references and roles to review decision rights.
