What you can do
Follow the result after the request
A commercial action can need attention after the owner submits it or a manager approves it. Operation receipts record the action, expected revision, occurrence date and result. They can also carry an external reference, effect references and a failure reason. The Relationship Owner uses these records to determine whether work is Pending, Completed, Failed or needs review.
Reconciliation begins by reading the linked evidence. A receipt becomes Completed only when its declared revision and local effect genuinely match. A discrepancy remains visible with an explanation. When an authorized correction affects work already executed elsewhere, the compensating action stays Pending until the downstream confirmation arrives. The team can then distinguish an intended correction from a confirmed result.
How the work is organized
- Repeatable requests. Each guarded action uses an operation key so a repeated request can be recognized. Reuse the same key when retrying the same intent. Changing the key merely to escape an uncertain result can leave the team investigating competing requests.
- Evidence comparison. Read the parent opportunity, expected revision and linked effect before accepting completion. If the evidence differs, keep the discrepancy in the failure reason and route the receipt for review. A reconciliation summary keeps the parent opportunity’s check discoverable.
- Authorized corrections. Establish whether the affected scope has executed. Unexecuted scope can be canceled without deleting its history. Executed scope needs an independently approved compensating action and confirmation of the resulting effect before the correction is complete.
What to agree during setup
Agree who handles pending operations and which Sales Manager reviews executed-scope corrections. Define the evidence that confirms each declared action. Where the result depends on a connected system, decide which external reference identifies the response and who investigates a missing acknowledgment. Keep the original action and correction linked through their recorded evidence.
Set a routine for reviewing receipts that need attention. The owner should be able to explain the expected result, what the current evidence shows and the next person responsible. An Auditor needs enough access to compare the commercial decision with the operation history, while retaining read-only access. Review this routine alongside your integration choices.
Check the handoff on an actual case
The Relationship Owner requests an approved correction to Cedar Analytics’ renewal scope. The downstream system has accepted the original work, so the correction requires compensation. The Sales Manager checks the exact revision and authorizes that compensating action. Its receipt remains Pending while the team waits for confirmation from the connected system.
Rehearse a retry before the response arrives. The same operation key should identify the existing request and prevent a duplicate effect. Then provide evidence that disagrees with the declared revision. Reconciliation must leave the receipt needing review with a useful discrepancy reason. Finally, rehearse a matching local effect and the required downstream confirmation. Only the evidence that meets the action’s completion conditions should close the work. Preserve the original decision and both action histories throughout the exercise.
What your team sees
- Receipts Needing Review — Action discrepancies with their expected revision, effect references and failure explanation.
- Pending Operations — Requests whose completion evidence still needs follow-up.
Follow the work through
Use correction and reconciliation to rehearse uncertain outcomes, then agree the release checks in implementation.
