Goals and suppression

Record why a member leaves and keep a global opt-out effective across every nurture journey.

Step by step

  1. Define the intended result Marketing Manager

Marketing Manager agrees the program goal and its applicable target. Marketing Operations connects that goal to the program and prepares the exit conditions. Choose an engagement-based result, such as a booked meeting, for the first rehearsal.

    • Goal and exits prepared
    • Updates Goals, Programs, Program exit rules
  2. Record achievement Marketing Operations

A matching engagement or goal-check signal can move an Active member to Exited with the Achieved outcome and an exit time. Marketing Operations inspects that result. The program's achieved-goal summary derives from member outcomes, so review the underlying members when reconciling it.

    • Active to Exited with Achieved; derived summary
    • Updates Members, Engagements, Programs
  3. Inspect another exit Marketing Operations

Any matching exit rule can end enrollment. Marketing Operations reviews the applicable outcome, keeping suppression, disqualification, a manual exit and audience drift distinct from achievement. A finished sequence with no achieved goal or other exit becomes Completed instead.

    • Distinct exit outcome retained
    • Updates Members, Program exit rules
  4. Honor an opt-out Marketing Systems Admin

Marketing Systems Admin coordinates suppression handling and Marketing Operations checks the affected enrollments. An email-link opt-out records its source, reason and timing, then exits Active enrollments with the Suppressed outcome. Connect the send-service confirmation and reconcile it with the same request.

    • Suppression recorded; Active to Exited with Suppressed
    • Updates Unsubscribes, Members
  5. Prevent further nurture Marketing Operations

Marketing Operations checks the global restriction before another enrollment or email action. A suppressed lead cannot receive program email or re-enter a program. Keep the request context visible even if the lead remains on a list or the program otherwise permits re-entry.

    • Global send and re-entry restriction checked
    • Updates Unsubscribes, Programs, Members

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Completed is used for a member that actually achieved the goal or was suppressed.
  • A program summary is edited without correcting the underlying member outcome.
  • The locally honored time is mistaken for the sending service's confirmation.
  • Request scope or continued list membership is used to bypass global suppression.
