Reserve eligible stock for the request

Account for existing holds and lot eligibility before committing stock to dock work.

Step by step

  1. Select eligible stock Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk examines the lot's item, location, state and dates. Confirm that the stock meets the operating eligibility policy before requesting a hold.

    • Establish item and eligibility context
    • Updates Stock lots, Stock items, Stock requests
  2. Check free quantity Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk compares the lot balance with active Held reservations. Subtract those commitments from on hand to establish the quantity still available for the new request.

    • Compare on hand with existing holds
    • Updates Stock lots, Stock reservations
  3. Request the hold Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk runs the reservation action for the request and lot. A valid quantity creates a Held reservation and recorded receipt; an excess creates a failed receipt with the shortfall.

    • Record Held quantity or failed shortfall
    • Updates Stock reservations, Operation receipts
  4. Inspect repeat handling Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk checks the saved reservation and receipt. Repeating the same request-plus-lot operation returns the existing result instead of reserving the quantity again.

    • Reuse the existing reservation outcome
    • Updates Stock reservations, Operation receipts
  5. Respond to changed scope Inventory Supervisor

Inventory Supervisor uses the correction or cancellation action when the authorized quantity changes. Inspect released holds and the resulting free stock before committing it to another request.

    • Correct scope and release commitments
    • Updates Stock requests, Stock reservations, Operation receipts

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Existing holds overlooked. The visible lot balance includes quantities that another request may already have committed.
  • Restricted lots. A quantity can be physically present while its state requires quarantine, expiry or blocking follow-up.
  • Uncertain responses. Inspect the existing receipt before retrying after a delayed action response.
