Who it's for

Colocation operations

A colocation operations team handles physical work whose context can be lost between shifts. Rack position records show the named rack, occupied units, power and asset. Cable connection records show the installed cable, endpoints and related incident. The service and asset records give the operations team a consistent point of reference when work is requested or disrupted.

How Data Center Management is set up for you

Named placement

Use a rack code and asset tag that floor staff can verify.

Patch account

Carry the cable identity and both port names into the incident context.

Requested work

Review a service request before moving it into delivery.

Shift handoff

Read incident assignment, acknowledgment and updates alongside physical observations.

A colocation operations team handles physical work whose context can be lost between shifts. Rack position records show the named rack, occupied units, power and asset. Cable connection records show the installed cable, endpoints and related incident. The service and asset records give the operations team a consistent point of reference when work is requested or disrupted.

Select one area and agree on rack naming and port labels with the technicians who work there. Import the services and assets used in that area, then verify the equipment tags against physical labels. Record a representative rack position and a cable patch tied to a sample incident. A technician should be able to find the right incident from the cable entry and the right service from the asset.

Add a service request for routine physical work. The Request Coordinator records the requester, service and due date, then makes the approval decision. The technician begins only approved work and records when it actually finished. The Service Manager compares the completion date with the original due date. This makes the handoff review about actual work rather than an optimistic schedule.
