What you can do
Read the event before changing the packet
Signer events record what was observed for a parent packet. The signer identity, signing order, signed date, document hash and provider envelope reference let operations connect an event to the exact signing request. An event outcome can be pending, accepted or rejected. A packet’s completed signer count should reflect accepted evidence for the correct revision, rather than the number of messages received from a provider. Duplicate or unclear messages need investigation before they affect completion.
How the work is organized
- Identity. Compare the event signer with the expected signer on the packet.
- Document. Match the event document hash and envelope reference to the prepared revision.
- Outcome. Use accepted evidence to support progress and retain rejected observations.
What to agree during setup
Agree how provider callbacks are authenticated and how repeated deliveries are matched to the same source record. Decide who can review a rejected event and what receipt must be retained. Define the point at which a sent packet becomes partially signed and when the signed evidence supports completion. Give operations a route to hold an ambiguous event for reconciliation instead of assuming it is a signature.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Suppose a packet requires signatures in a specific order. The first provider message names the expected signer and matches the prepared document hash; operations retains its source reference and signed time. A later message carries the same source record identity, so it is checked as a repeat rather than counted again. A message for a different hash cannot complete the packet. The owner can see the resulting progress, while operations follows the attempt and receipt trail if a provider response remains uncertain.
The handoff should be checked on a real packet, not just on a status label. Open the linked record and compare the people, revision and provider evidence behind the decision. If the record is returned or uncertain, keep it visible to the person responsible for the next action. The next team should be able to explain what was received, what was accepted and why the packet changed state.
When an event arrives, operations starts with its parent packet and source record identity. Compare the envelope, signer, order and hash before marking the observation accepted. A second delivery carrying the same source identity should lead back to the first observation; it should not add another completed signer. If the event is rejected or cannot be matched, keep its reference and the related execution attempt available for investigation. The packet owner can then explain why progress remains at sent or partially signed without presenting an unverified message as a completed signature.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Signer events
- An update on a signer's progress on a document, used by the team to track how far a signature request has gotten.
- Signature packets
- A batch of documents sent out for signature, used by the team to track who's signed and whether it's complete.
- Execution attempts
- A single try at carrying out an operation, used by the team to see what was attempted and whether it succeeded.
- Operation runs
- A full run of an automated operation, used by the team to see what happened end to end and its final result.
- Operation steps
- A single step within a run, used by the team to trace exactly what happened and when during execution.
