Demand to finished parts

Carry approved line demand into released production and accepted terminal-operation output.

Step by step

  1. Read approved demand Production Planner

Production Planner checks that the customer order is approved and reviews its line quantities. The intake action requires Approved demand, positive quantities and a finished-goods warehouse before creating Firm demand in the master production schedule under the demand fence. The intake action refuses an order that already has demand rows and leaves those rows unchanged.

    • Firm demand recorded once
    • Updates Sales orders, Sales order lines, Master schedule
  2. Review the supply proposals Production Planner

Production Planner runs planning against bill requirements, inventory and open supply. Planned orders identify work to make parts or purchases to obtain them; planning exceptions assign shortage and timing actions. A previous Proposed suggestion set must be resolved before publishing another set.

    • Reviewed supply actions
    • Updates Planned orders, MRP exceptions, Inventory
  3. Release the work order Production Planner

Production Planner advances work orders from Planned to Released using the reviewed bill of materials and routing. Work order component lines and work order operations retain the resulting material and operation requirements. Check planned start and planned end against the selected work center and calendar.

    • Execution requirements prepared
    • Updates Work orders, Work order components, Work order operations
  4. Execute and record output Shop Floor Supervisor or Operator

Shop Floor Supervisor coordinates operations from Pending to in progress and Completed and maintains production reporting. Operator handles permitted material issue to work in progress stock movements. The issue action checks free quantity and an Available unexpired lot for lot-controlled material.

    • Time, output and material evidence
    • Updates Production log, Stock movements, Lots
  5. Decide required quality release Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector reviews required inspection results and authorizes release of held material through the controlled disposition action. On hold material cannot be completed or shipped before its applicable hold is resolved.

    • Accepted disposition recorded
    • Updates Quality inspections, Quality holds
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  6. Receive accepted finished quantity Production Planner

Production Planner uses the agreed completion action for previously unreceived good output from the completed terminal-operation interval. It creates the Completion stock effect once and updates the completed quantity. The planner closes the work order after the relevant posting review.

    • Finished output received once
    • Updates Work orders, Stock movements, Production log

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Demand is recreated after a replay or another Proposed suggestion set is published before review.
  • Allocated stock is counted as free material for a second work order.
  • Output from an intermediate operation is received as finished inventory.
  • A completion retry repeats quantity completed or its movement effect.
