Inspection to quality release

Record inspection evidence, contain affected material and retain the disposition decision.

Step by step

  1. Select the applicable plan Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector checks inspection plans by product, inspection type, version and effective date. Each inspection characteristic specifies what is measured, its limits and the selected instrument. The instrument rule excludes overdue equipment; the rehearsal must verify it in the agreed inspection action.

    • Applicable checks selected
    • Updates Inspection plans, Inspection characteristics, Instruments
  2. Record the inspection result Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector creates quality inspections and inspection results, retaining measured value and Pass or Fail against the characteristic. Quantity accepted and quantity rejected explain the inspected scope. Required evidence must refer to the receipt or operation being released.

    • Measured evidence retained
    • Updates Quality inspections, Inspection results
  3. Contain the affected scope Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector creates quality holds for the lot, goods receipt or work order operation and records nonconformance reports where needed. An active hold prevents the affected material from being issued, completed or shipped. Quantity on hand remains a separate stock fact.

    • Material blocked from use
    • Updates Quality holds, Non conformance reports, Lots
  4. Decide the disposition Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector reviews the evidence and authorizes the permitted disposition. An accepted disposition can release a hold; scrap or return follows the corresponding Scrapped or Returned branch. Retain the releasing employee and release date when a hold is released rather than erasing the earlier hold.

    • Authorized material outcome
    • Updates Quality holds, Goods receipts
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  5. Verify the corrective action Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector coordinates corrective actions with the assigned owner and independent verifier, keeping the due date visible. Completed, Verified and Closed preserve the difference between finishing the task and checking that the action addressed the nonconformance.

    • Independent verification retained
    • Updates Corrective actions, Non conformance reports

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A valid measurement is entered against an Overdue instrument.
  • The hold points to a work order but omits the operation it is meant to block.
  • Inventory quantity is treated as permission to issue an on hold lot.
  • Corrective-action completion is mistaken for independent verification.
