What you can do
Keep the source and decision together
The bill of materials defines output product and base quantity. Components state their required quantities and allowed loss; routing operations give the work sequence and cost basis. Warehouse Manager releases a work order against an active BOM, routing, output standard and positive planned quantity.
Operators record material issues, operation work and completion entries. Work order cost entries retain material, labor and overhead effects. Finance Manager reviews standards and variances, and an unresolved residual prevents an ordinary close.
How the work is organized
- Agree. Agree the output basis and component units for each assembly recipe.
- Activate. Activate reviewed cost standards before releasing work.
- Assign. Assign operations and decide who may approve residual variance.
The work order freezes its output product, recipe, routing, standard and planned amount at release. Warehouse Operator records material issues and actual operation time. A completion records finished output and allocated work-in-process cost, not the planned amount. Warehouse Manager reviews residual variance before closing the job; Finance Manager handles the independent value exception.
What to agree during setup
Agree the output basis and component units for each assembly recipe. Activate reviewed cost standards before releasing work. Assign operations and decide who may approve residual variance. Name the person who will review a changed revision and the person who will reconcile a posted correction. Check that both work within the right legal entity and assigned site.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A warehouse assembles a dealer kit from stocked components. The manager reviews the recipe and planned quantity, then releases the work. The operator records actual issued material and output. Finance compares posted cost with the standard and resolves any remaining work-in-process before close.
Use a kit that needs two components. Release the reviewed recipe, then compare required components with actual issues and returns. Record a partial finished output and leave the remaining work visible. Check that the cost entry follows actual consumption and that a second completion cannot consume the same source work twice.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Routings
- Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Routing operations
- Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Work order cost entries
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
- Cost standards
- Entity/product standard per base unit with immutable effective versions.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- , Warehouse Operator, Finance Manager, Accountant handle their assigned steps within the legal entity and warehouse scope.
- A preparer sends the current revision to a different eligible reviewer.
