What you can do
Separate a route plan, actual dispatch, delivery result and returned goods
Warehouse Manager arranges Delivery routes with a coordinator, assigned operator, source warehouse and ordered route stops. Route release checks the transport reference and stops before work begins. Pick tasks are tied to accepted order lines and reservations. Shipments keep the shipment, warehouse and title rule, while Shipment lines retain dispatched and delivered quantities separately.
An actual delivery attempt records a visit and its evidence. Delivery results allocate accepted, refused, failed and damaged quantities to each line. For delivery-title terms, goods can remain owned in transit after dispatch; only the accepted delivered portion transfers title. Returns carry direction, reason and bounded original scope. Return dispositions separately determine whether actual goods are held, restocked, reworked, scrapped or sent back.
How the work is organized
- Source. Keep the responsible entity, original document and current revision attached to the transaction.
- Decision. Send material releases and exceptions to the named reviewer with the exact scope and reason.
- Result. Record actual quantities and financial effects separately from plans and instructions.
What to agree during setup
Agree on title rules for each selling arrangement, route ownership and the evidence required at handoff. Define who may authorize returns and who reviews disposition. Reconcile physical return with any customer credit as separate decisions.
Define the shipment title rule and identify which route operator records a stop result. Warehouse Manager reviews each route before release and keeps the source warehouse and transport reference with it. Agree on the proof needed for a delivery attempt and who authorizes and disposes of a return. Rehearse with ordinary route and warehouse accounts.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Pick and dispatch part of a dealer order. Record a route stop that accepts one line and refuses part of another. Confirm that the shipment is not described as fully delivered, the transit remainder is visible, and the invoice basis includes only eligible title-transferred quantity. Authorize a bounded return and inspect its physical disposition before preparing a credit.
Sales Representative should see which accepted order lines remain unfulfilled. Warehouse Manager should compare dispatched, accepted and refused quantities on the delivery line. A return disposition should explain the physical goods; Accountant prepares a separate credit only after the financial scope has been reviewed.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Pick tasks
- Actual picked quantities remain exclusively tied to the order and do not post COGS.
- Deliveries
- Actual dispatch and title/delivery state separated for partial deliveries.
- Delivery lines
- Actual dispatch quantities and current title-transferred/delivered portions.
- Delivery routes

- Route stops
- Explicit stable sequence and exact order/shipment ownership.
- Delivery attempts
- Actual visit/handoff facts, separate from line outcomes and legal title.
- Delivery results
- Each attempt allocates line outcomes once; one visit may partially deliver many lines.
- Returns
- Bounded customer/supplier physical return authorization, separate from commercial credits.
