Demand to released supply

A useful production plan starts with an identifiable demand source. Follow the approved garment quantity through the planning horizon, then explain the work and purchasing decisions that will supply it.

Step by step

  1. Review demand Production Planner

Production Planner checks approved customer lines, positive quantities and the finished-goods warehouse. Confirm the responsible employee with the customer-demand owner before bringing the lines into the master schedule.

    • Establish the period demand and warehouse basis
    • Updates Sales orders, Sales order lines, Master schedule, Forecasts
  2. Calculate requirements Production Planner

Production Planner compares the bill requirement with free stock and open supply. Review Work and Purchase suggestions separately, retaining the product, quantity and need date on each suggestion.

    • Compare net requirements with available supply
    • Updates Bill of materials, BOM components, Inventory, Planned orders
  3. Resolve exceptions Production Planner

Production Planner assigns each shortage and asks Buyer to investigate the purchasing response. Review the current Proposed suggestions before another planning run publishes a replacement set.

    • Assign shortage response and review suggestions
    • Updates MRP exceptions, Planned orders, Purchase orders
  4. Release work Production Planner

Production Planner firms the selected supply and releases prepared work orders with the intended bill and route. Shop Floor Supervisor reviews the operation sequence and dates before putting the job into the floor's working queue.

    • Move prepared work into the released schedule
    • Updates Work orders, Work order components, Work order operations

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Allocated stock counted twice. Compare free stock after existing allocations before promising yarn to the new job.
  • Demand repeated. A repeated intake request must leave the original demand identifiable without adding the same order again.
  • Old suggestions left open. Finish reviewing the current Proposed set before publishing another set of material suggestions.
