Event-linked factor review

Validate a cited emission factor and explain its applicability to the operating period under review.

Step by step

  1. Identify the operating context Energy Manager

Energy Manager selects the operating event and reviews its site, type and actual interval. Sustainability Analyst uses that context to establish which energy source and period the factor review concerns.

    • Establish the relevant event and period
    • Updates Operational events, Sites
  2. Prepare the factor Sustainability Analyst

Sustainability Analyst links the factor to the event and records the energy type, region and effective start. Enter the carbon-per-kilowatt-hour basis with a source citation that another reviewer can locate.

    • Record event link and cited basis
    • Updates Emission factors, Operational events
  3. Validate the evidence Sustainability Analyst

Validation checks the attributed event link, nonnegative basis and effective date, together with the source citation. Rejected entries retain notes. Sustainability Analyst corrects the identified issue and revalidates the entry before using it in the next review.

    • Return Valid or Rejected with notes
    • Updates Emission factors
  4. Check applicability Sustainability Analyst

Sustainability Analyst compares the valid factor's energy type and effective date with the consumption scope under discussion. Energy Manager supplies the operating context. Agree the period-matching method before using the factor to calculate emissions.

    • Compare energy type and effective period
    • Updates Emission factors, Energy intervals, Meters
  5. Review coverage Sustainability Analyst

Sustainability Analyst uses Emission Factor Coverage to identify the event-linked factors available for the review and checks Factor Exceptions for unresolved evidence. Keep the cited basis available with the calculation method used for the operating cycle.

    • Review available factors and exceptions
    • Updates Emission factors, Operational events

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A source citation is too vague to locate the original factor. Agree a citation convention and retain the source.
  • The factor becomes effective after the consumption period. Choose an applicable basis before calculating a result.
  • The event context and energy type refer to different operating circumstances. Review the linked event before accepting the comparison.
