What you can do
Give delivery a commercial baseline
An installation engagement holds the agreed work as a named delivery record. The Installation Manager links the site and owning organization, selects the installation type, and records the start and end dates. Contract value and budget hours give later service lines and time entries a baseline. The assigned installation manager is responsible for keeping that baseline understandable as the work progresses.
The engagement status moves through Proposed, Active, on hold, Completed or Cancelled according to the actual delivery decision. These values describe the engagement. A completed installation can still have a milestone invoice or payment being followed by the Billing Coordinator, so the financial records keep their own statuses.
How the work is organized
- Scope and dates. The name, type, site and date window identify the installation the team is discussing.
- Delivery owner. An installation manager is assigned to the engagement; technicians link their service lines and time back to it.
- Value and cost. Delivered amount, approved service amount, delivered cost and contract consumption are visible alongside the original value and hours budget.
What to agree during setup
Define when a proposed engagement may become active and who is allowed to change its dates or contract value. The app stores the baseline values; the operating team should agree which contract document is authoritative for later changes. Attach the relevant contract or statement of work to the engagement record and keep the site link stable.
Agree how fixed fee, time and materials, retainer and milestone engagements will be entered. The installation type is a recorded classification, while the actual billing event in this app is the site milestone invoice workflow. Review the billable work order lines and milestones before making promises about what has been invoiced. The Billing Coordinator should use the payment record rather than the engagement status to judge collection.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A customer asks for a fixed fee installation at an active site. The Installation Manager creates an engagement with the site, owning organization, contract value, budget hours and scheduled dates. The Regional Installation Manager checks the assigned manager and moves the engagement into active delivery. Technicians then record work orders and hours against that exact engagement, allowing delivered service amounts and hours to accumulate in the same record.
Near completion, the Field Operations Director opens the Installation Margin Desk. Contract value, delivered amount, invoiced service amount and delivered cost show different questions: agreed value, executed work, billing progress and cost. If budget consumption is high, the director can inspect the service lines behind the signal. Closing delivery changes the engagement to Completed after the manager checks the remaining milestones; it does not turn a payment into Received.
