What you can do
Forecast versions in daily work
Each forecast version links a business partner, a driver, an organization and an owner. It carries start and end dates, a forecast amount, actual-to-date amount and a basis. The version status separates Pending, Active, Complete and Hold work.
Each version keeps a forecast reference, dated term, partner, driver, organization and owner. Its forecast amount and actual-to-date value support a term review. Pending, Active, Complete and Hold separate recorded states; a hold reason gives Finance Leader a starting point for discussing a paused version.
How the work is organized
- Version owner. FP&A Planner keeps the partner, driver, organization and term together.
- Progress check. Compare forecast amount with actual to date on the same version.
- Hold review. Finance Leader reads the recorded hold reason with the owner.
What to agree during setup
Agree which version reference identifies the decision under review. Choose the correct driver and forecast basis before using the amount in a planning discussion. Ask the owner to record a hold reason when a version cannot be used.
Agree how version references distinguish revisions for the same partner and term. Check that a version points to the intended organization and driver before comparing its amount with actual to date. FP&A Planner records the hold reason when a version needs investigation and keeps the owner attached to the record.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Open an active version for a partner and compare its forecast amount with actual to date. Inspect the remaining balance and percent actual. Mark a version Hold and record a reason when it needs investigation, then have Finance Leader review that reason with its owner.
FP&A Planner opens the active partner version and checks forecast amount, actual to date and remaining balance for its dates. Finance Leader reads a second version marked Hold and asks its owner to explain the reason. The team compares the two by reference and term, then records the owner’s explanation for the held version.
What your team sees
