What you can do
Work from the actual assessment
A care compliance review belongs to an assessment and organization. It can name the facility, review date, privacy officer and count of access exceptions. The review has its own status and revision so that a reviewer decides on the submitted state of that record. This is useful when the assessment covers a wider assurance engagement and a facility issue needs a distinct decision.
The independent reviewer records Approve, Reject or Return with a substantive reason, source revision and operation key. That judgement belongs to the review record. It does not automatically approve the parent assessment or certify a facility. A returned review can be revised and submitted again; the earlier decision remains attributable to the revision that was reviewed.
How the work is organized
- One accountable parent. Keep each activity linked to the relevant assessment, risk, control or finding so the next person can follow the same case.
- Named responsibility. Assign the record to the person who prepares the work and keep independent judgement with a separate reviewer where a decision is required.
- Visible outcome. Use the recorded state, result, date and evidence to explain what happened before moving the case forward.
What to agree during setup
Agree who can prepare a facility review, who is independent enough to decide it and how privacy and access exceptions are summarized. Keep the facility name and privacy officer clear for the specific review. Decide which evidence is shared with the reviewer and how the organization records a returned item for correction.
Rehearse a submitted review with access exceptions. Have a different reviewer return it with a specific reason, revise it, and then record a decision against the new revision. Confirm that the parent assessment has not advanced merely because the review was approved.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Take a facility review with a named privacy officer and recorded access exceptions. The assessment owner submits the review, and the compliance reviewer checks the submitted revision before deciding. If the reviewer returns it, keep the reason with that decision while the owner prepares another revision. The next reviewer decision should identify the new source revision. Check the parent assessment separately: approval of this facility review must not change the assessment outcome.
