Independent review to publication

Calculate results, approve the exact cohort revision and publish its outcome rates.

Step by step

  1. Calculate results Outcomes Analyst

Outcomes Analyst records metric observations against the cohort and its snapshot, and stores one result per approved definition and window as Calculated, Suppressed or Invalid with a reason. The cohort moves Status: Validated → Analyzed.

    • Results stored, cohort analyzed
    • Updates Metric observations, Metric results, Outcome cohorts
  2. Verify the evidence Clinical Reviewer

Clinical Reviewer opens the evidence documents attached to the cohort and marks each checked one Verified: No → Yes.

    • Evidence verified
    • Updates Evidence documents
  3. Decide the revision Clinical Reviewer

Clinical Reviewer, who is not the cohort Owner, reviews the source revision with its accepted facts, results and evidence. The reviewer approves with Decision: Pending → Approved, or records Returned or Rejected with a reason and evidence reference.

    • Revision approved, returned or rejected
    • Updates Review decisions
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  4. Publish the rates Analytics Manager

Analytics Manager starts the publication workflow for the approved revision. It records an operation run with numbered steps, updates the result fields and reads them back. The run moves Status: Queued → Running → Succeeded only after the read-back confirms the effects.

    • Result fields written and confirmed
    • Updates Operation runs, Operation steps
  5. Close the cohort Analytics Manager

The cohort moves Status: Analyzed → Published with its completion date, and state history records the transition, the actor and the revision.

    • Cohort published
    • Updates Outcome cohorts, State history

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • The cohort Owner approves their own revision.
  • The cohort changes after approval and the old approval is used to publish the new data.
  • A run is marked succeeded after the write but before anyone confirms the fields were updated.
  • A zero denominator produces a rate of zero instead of a suppressed result.
