What you can do
Release a specific production basis
Warehouse Manager reviews a work order against its output product, BOM, routing, standard cost and positive planned quantity. The release fixes the relevant revision and records a separate approval decision. Material reservations and production entries follow that released scope. Warehouse Operator records actual component use and completed output; intermediate operations cannot be counted again as finished units. The work order can close only after residual variance is resolved or independently reviewed. Accountant follows work in progress and posted cost, while Finance Manager reviews material variance and standards.
How the work is organized
- Basis. Warehouse Manager releases a work order against a reviewed BOM, routing and output standard.
- Use. Warehouse Operator records actual component consumption and operation progress.
- Output. Finished units and residual work in progress remain traceable to the released order.
What to agree during setup
Choose the output product, component units, BOM revision, routing and standard cost for the first kit. Warehouse Manager needs a positive planned quantity and the frozen basis before release. Warehouse Operator should record actual material use and completed operations against that order, including scrap, without counting intermediate work as finished output.
Agree who investigates a changed component requirement and how a later BOM version applies to future work. Accountant should reconcile work in progress and posted cost; Finance Manager reviews material variance when it requires financial authority. Test a partial completion and a repeated completion request to make sure finished stock posts once. Before closing, compare issued components, output and residual variance with the released plan and retain the decision supporting an exception.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Start a kit for a dealer order with two components. Release only the reviewed quantity and capture the component basis before issuing stock. Record partial output, then inspect the remaining work in progress and available components. If scrap changes actual use, keep the difference visible to the reviewer. Confirm the terminal completion posts finished stock once and that closing the order does not create another output event. A changed BOM requires a new reviewed version for future work.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- BO ms
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM lines
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Production routings
- Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Routing operations
- Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
- Work order materials
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production entries
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Work order cost entries
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
- Standard costs
- Entity/product standard per base unit with immutable effective versions.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- Releases; Warehouse Operator records work; Accountant reconciles; Finance Manager reviews variances.
