What you can do
Onboarding in daily work
A checklist groups the work needed for a hire, transfer, rehire or separation. Individual tasks name an assignee, category, due date and status. HR Business Partner can see whether IT, Facilities, Payroll and the manager have finished their pieces before the person begins work. The employee record and hire event carry the continuing lifecycle context.
An accepted offer gives HR Business Partner the employee and start date to use for a checklist. Each task has an assignee, due date, category and state. Admin maintains the checklist and task records in the published role setup; HR Business Partner maintains the employee and hire history. The team can compare the checklist with the effective hire event.
How the work is organized
- Set the start. HR Business Partner confirms the employee and effective hire date.
- Assign the work. Admin links a checklist to that employee and gives each task an assignee and due date.
- Close the handoff. Admin reviews blocked tasks; HR Business Partner checks the hire event against the employee row.
What to agree during setup
Agree which checklist template to use for each type of change, who assigns tasks, and what completion evidence belongs on a task. Set a target completion date and review blocked items with the assignee rather than treating the checklist percentage as an approval.
Decide which checklist template fits a new hire, transfer or rehire. Admin needs the employee reference before assigning work. Agree what counts as task evidence and who corrects an incorrect assignee. HR Business Partner should reconcile the effective hire date with the employee row, while Admin checks outstanding tasks before completing the checklist.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A newly accepted hire starts next month. HR Business Partner links the employee to an onboarding checklist and assigns the payroll and IT tasks to their owners. Each assignee updates the task status and completion time. HR checks remaining tasks before marking the checklist completed.
Admin opens Onboarding tasks due and checks the payroll and IT task owners. A blocked task stays visible until its assignee resolves it. HR Business Partner compares the employee start date with the hire event. If the checklist points to the wrong employee, Admin corrects that reference before treating completion as evidence of readiness.
