What you can do

Performance and learning

Performance cycles name a review period and its opening, review, calibration and closing dates. Performance reviews connect a subject and reviewer to that cycle. Goals give an employee specific work to assess, with due date, progress and final rating. HR Business Partner maintains people and performance records while employees can enter their own goals.

Learning follows a different trail. Courses describe the catalog item, delivery and whether it is mandatory. Course enrollments show an employee’s assignment, progress and completion. Training records preserve a completed course or competency with its completion and expiration dates. L&D Admin maintains those records.

How the work is organized

  • Cycle. Set review dates and identify which reviewers and subjects belong to the period.
  • Goal. Keep an employee’s goal and status separate from the overall review rating.
  • Learning. Follow course enrollment into a durable training record and its expiration date.

What to agree during setup

Agree when a cycle is Open, in review, Calibration and Closed, and which review types are expected. A Submitted review is ready for the next decision; Released and Acknowledged reflect later stages. Decide who may see the narrative and who records the final rating.

For learning, agree which courses are mandatory, how assignments are made and when completion is accepted. An enrollment marked Completed and a training record marked Valid should be checked together. Expiring soon and Expired records need an owner for follow-up.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Choose one cycle and one employee. Link a goal, assign a reviewer and open the review. Have HR Business Partner record the reviewer’s narrative and rating. Follow the review through calibration, release and acknowledgment, checking its status at each handoff. A goal marked Completed should still retain its own final rating and due date. Check that the review subject, reviewer and cycle remain linked through release.

Enroll the same employee in a course, record completion, and inspect the training record’s expiration date. L&D Admin can use the expiry watch to find a qualification needing action without treating the course enrollment itself as the long-term certificate.

What your team sees

  • Reviews awaiting submission — HR Business Partner follows reviews that have not reached submission.
  • Training expiry watch — L&D Admin checks expiring and expired qualifications against dated training records.
  • Active employee register — Compare the review subject and course enrollee with the current employee record.
