Hospital infection control teams

A hospital infection control team can use the case record as the shared identity for an investigation. The Clinical Coordinator names an investigator and schedules the episode. The Licensed Clinician records notes, specimens, measurements and follow-up actions. The Clinical Reviewer examines the episode when it is awaiting review. This gives the team a common record for the work without treating a completed episode as proof that all case follow-up is finished.

How Infection Control System is set up for you

Case handoff

Record the patient number, assigned investigator and purpose-specific consent before the episode begins.

Evidence review

Read signed notes with measured observations, specimen processing states and treatment dispensations.

Open work

Keep actions with due dates and assignees visible after the investigation moves to Completed.

This gives the team a common record for the work without treating a completed episode as proof that all case follow-up is finished.

Begin with a case, a signed consent and one scheduled investigation. Agree who changes the episode status as the person arrives, work starts and review begins. Enter a note and a specimen with an accession number. Then rehearse the review with the Clinical Reviewer, checking that each record belongs to the same investigation. Add a follow-up action that remains open after episode completion; the coordinator should still see it in the case work list.

During setup, decide how patient numbers are assigned and how laboratory results arrive from the laboratory's own system. A specimen can be tracked from Ordered through processing, while a measured observation captures a value, unit and observation date. The team should decide which measurements it needs in this record and who enters them. A treatment dispensation can record medication, lot, quantity and authorizer when relevant to an episode.
