Who it's for

Industrial equipment monitoring

Equipment teams can use a stream to keep a measured source, its reading history and the person responsible for a condition exception together. The Stream Owner identifies each source and agrees its bounds with the Measurement Steward. The Operations Analyst reviews observed values; the Independent Reviewer records a decision for the source revision when approval is required.

How IoT Data Analytics is set up for you

Identify equipment

Use the source record identity and stream owner to distinguish similar monitored assets. Keep the linked organization and effective definition clear.

Review conditions

Compare the stream reading value with its bounds and quality flag. Inspect the run's read-back before accepting its result.

Assign work

Give an open follow-up action to a named Follow-up Owner with a due date and a resolution to record.

Begin with an equipment source that has a known normal reading and one outside the agreed bound. Set the definition's effective dates and connect the source identity before collecting. The Operations Analyst registers and validates the readings, then runs anomaly review. Ask them to find the operation steps and confirm that the stream fields match the recorded outcome.

The Independent Reviewer checks the revision and attached evidence before deciding. If the decision is returned, the Stream Owner records the correction as a successor revision. The earlier run and decision remain tied to the original. Reconcile any metric result against eligible readings and keep the earlier result if the source changes.

Before expanding to more equipment, rehearse a failed read-back. The Operations Analyst should inspect the current stream and step trail before another attempt. Use [implementation](/iot-data-analytics/implementation) to plan the cycle and [integrations](/iot-data-analytics/integrations) to set up the measurement source.

Features to start with

Roles on the team

Stream Owner
Owns source configuration and the collection cycle for assigned streams.
Operations Analyst
Validates readings, investigates anomaly outcomes and reconciles metrics.
Independent Reviewer
Decides source-revision reviews and checks supporting evidence.
Follow-up Owner
Works assigned corrective actions to a recorded resolution.
Measurement Steward
Maintains definitions, source mappings and approved metric rules.
