How a IT Service Management rollout works

Configure service ownership, rehearse real cases and review each handoff.

  1. Define ownership

Agree the services in scope, their criticality and owner, the people directory and who performs each review decision.

  2. Prepare context

Enter services, assets and verified service-asset links that responders need for the pilot.

  3. Rehearse work

Walk an incident, a request and a change through their actual records and status decisions.

  4. Review evidence

Confirm response events, incident updates, advisory decisions, deployment results and restoration times can be explained by another team member.

  5. Expand

Add further services and external feeds after the owners can maintain the first operating scope.

What the customer provides

Bring a current service list, named owners, people who will answer and approve work, asset identifiers, request types and a sample change with a rollback plan. Choose an incident that illustrates a real handoff. If external event sources are in scope, identify their source system and external event identifiers.

Changing it afterwards

Review the queue and service records after the first operating cycle. Adjust ownership, request types and article categories when the real work shows confusion. A new external feed or service should have an owner and a small rehearsal before it joins routine operations. Use the data model to plan imported references and roles to test access.
