How a Lab Information System (LIMS) rollout works
Introduce patient and specimen work in a controlled pilot.
Map the current work
Identify who creates patients, visits, consents, accessions and review decisions.
Prepare identities
Set up staff, clinician records and role access, then check effective privilege dates.
Import working records
Bring in patients before encounters, then attach specimens and notes to the right visits.
Rehearse handoffs
Follow one ordinary collection, one rejection and one returning patient through the relevant screens.
Start operating
Review open tasks, pending consents and specimens in receipt states with named owners.
What the customer provides
Provide patient identifiers, current clinician assignments, consent purpose and version, privilege evidence, accession rules and the team’s status meanings. Name a coordinator, clinician, reviewer and governance administrator for the pilot. Agree how analytical findings and clinical reports move through existing systems.
Changing it afterwards
Change one status rule or handoff at a time. Rehearse the new path against an existing encounter and a new one. Keep the accession and encounter link stable during a correction. Review role access again when staff responsibilities change.
