Inspection to disposition

Collect evidence against the assigned inspection before accepting or rejecting its scope.

Step by step

  1. Prepare the assignment Quality Manager

Quality Manager records the inspection number, subject reference, type and scheduled date. The assigned person must map to the account that will conduct the work. Confirm the inspected subject before the first check begins.

    • Establish Planned work and its subject
    • Updates Inspections, People
  2. Conduct the checks Inspector

Inspector starts the Planned inspection and records observations on its linked checks. Pass, Fail and Not Applicable describe completed assessments; Pending identifies checks still requiring attention. The command validates the actor and current source before applying the work.

    • Start In Progress and capture linked results
    • Updates Inspections, Inspection checks
  3. Submit for review Inspector

Inspector moves the inspection from In Progress to Review after capturing the check evidence. An unchanged retry should retain the existing effect. Changed input under the same operation identity must not overwrite the original submission.

    • Move the evidenced inspection to Review
    • Updates Inspections, Inspection checks
  4. Decide the disposition Quality Approver

Quality Approver evaluates required check evidence. Eligible passing scope becomes Accepted. Failed scope becomes Rejected and raises a linked nonconformance with severity and containment responsibility. The decision must refer to the same inspection that supplied the evidence.

    • Accept passing scope or reject failed scope and raise a failure
    • Updates Inspections, Nonconformances
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Wrong subject. Similar inspection numbers can conceal a different fixture or operation. Check the subject reference and linked evidence together.
  • Unfinished evidence. A request to accept work does not replace the required check observations. Rehearse an incomplete submission.
  • Stale work. A delayed command must not silently act on an inspection that changed after the Inspector opened it.
