What you can do

Keep the technical decision attached to the submitted drawing

A customer can send an updated drawing while sales is still discussing the earlier requirement. The engineering inquiry distinguishes the submitted drawing revision, material specification and annual quantity from later changes. It links the request to its opportunity and owning organization. The technical review due date gives the team a date to discuss when the feasibility answer is needed.

Relationship Owner prepares the inquiry at Draft. Submission freezes the scope under consideration so the independent Sales Manager decision can be traced to the exact revision. The lifecycle separates Submitted, Approved, Rejected and Completed. Approved means the review decision has been made. Completed requires evidence that the declared external effect actually occurred, which needs an agreed connection and confirmation rule during setup.

How the work is organized

  • Scope preparation. Gather the customer’s drawing reference, material requirement and anticipated annual quantity. Link supporting files to the opportunity and make the relevant evidence clear before submission.
  • Independent review. Sales Manager considers the submitted revision using the authorized decision action. The decision record retains the reviewed revision, reviewer and reason with the decision timestamp. Keep the inquiry’s decision date consistent with that evidence.
  • Completion evidence. The operation receipt retains its key and effect references. Keep the inquiry marked Approved until the real external result supports marking it Completed.

What to agree during setup

Agree where drawing files are held and how drawing revision identifies the submitted version. Keep the applicable file with the opportunity. Agree how the review evidence identifies the particular inquiry and its submitted drawing version when the customer has different technical requests. The opportunity revision and inquiry revision identify different records; sharing an opportunity must not make a decision apply to every inquiry. A shared folder name alone is insufficient if its contents can change after submission.

Choose the authorized reviewer and the technical evidence they require. Authorize the eligible Sales Manager to use a controlled decision action without allowing the preparer to approve their own request. Decide what external effect makes a reviewed inquiry complete, how its reference is recorded and how an uncertain response is investigated. Ask the reviewer to explain what the retained technical evidence supports before answering the customer.

Check the handoff on an actual case

A customer requests a casting using a particular material specification and supplies a revised drawing after the initial submission. Relationship Owner retains the first submitted scope and identifies the changed requirement before asking for another review. Sales Manager must be able to tell which drawing revision the decision covers and why the earlier approval cannot authorize a different revision.

Suppose the reviewed request is then handed to the customer’s engineering system, but the response times out. Keep the result unresolved while checking the external reference and linked effect evidence. Rehearse the same operation again and confirm that it does not create another handoff. Only verified external evidence can support completion; a locally approved inquiry cannot be used as its own acknowledgment.

What your team sees

  • Engineering review queue — Inspect Submitted inquiries with their drawing, material requirement, annual quantity and review due date.
  • Engineering inquiries to prepare — Check Draft scope before it is frozen for review.
  • Engineering commitments to verify — Follow Approved inquiries whose actual external effect still needs confirmation.

Follow the work through

Engineering feasibility review shows the decision and confirmation boundary. Reconciliation to verified completion investigates uncertain effects. Agree the external mapping in integrations.

What it keeps track of

Data model
Engineering inquiries
Engineering feasibility inquiries submitted against an opportunity with drawing revision and material specification.
Opportunities
Sales opportunities with lifecycle status, expected value, expected close date and revision.
Organizations
Legal business entities that own accounts, opportunities and team membership.
Review decisions
Independent reviewer decisions recorded against an opportunity revision.
Record attachments
Uploaded evidence files linked to an opportunity with visibility and evidence type.
Operation receipts
Idempotent receipts for guarded operations with result state and external reference.
