Process steps
Follow the process from start to finish. Select a step to see who acts and what changes.
Prepare
Treasury Analyst confirms that the required closing rates are available and bank reconciliations in scope are approved by Controller. Subledger cutoff and intercompany agreement follow the checklist dependencies. An unresolved missing rate or unapproved bank reconciliation blocks the run's readiness.
Calculate
Treasury Analyst creates the entity-period run with its scope, rate date and reversal method. Account totals compare current carrying balances with the closing-rate value. Open-item workings retain the original basis, prior unreversed adjustments, remaining foreign amount and proposed change. Aggregated lines reconcile to those workings.
Review the lines
Treasury Analyst ties item counts and balances to aging, unapplied cash, bank and intercompany evidence. Asset increases and liability decreases create gains; asset decreases and liability increases create losses. An unexpected rate or balance returns to its source for correction and recalculation.
Submit and approve
Controller, different from the preparer, reviews the calculation, rate exceptions and reconciliations. The decision applies to the submitted version. Controller approves or returns it with a reason; a changed source or rate requires another calculation and decision.
Post
Controller's approval posts the adjustment journal once. Monetary asset increases debit the asset and credit unrealised gain; liability increases credit the liability and debit unrealised loss. Decreases reverse those directions. The run retains the posted journal, item allocations and rate versions used.
Reverse or carry
Treasury Analyst monitors the next-period treatment. ReverseNextPeriod posts its exact linked reversal in the eligible next period before new-period activity. Delta keeps the restated basis and the next run posts only the change from that carrying value. When an item settles, its allocated adjustment leaves open-item tracking and settlement recognises only the residual FX difference.

RevaluationRuns, ApprovalDecisions - Review the signGain is positive economically, not simply because the carrying amount rose. A payable increasing in functional value creates a loss.
- Prevent repeat postingRun and journal references identify the posted version. Recalculation does not add another copy of a posted adjustment.
- Preserve settlement basisUnder Delta, original basis plus allocated unreversed adjustment gives the carrying amount settled. Releasing that allocation is not another profit-and-loss entry.
- Handle partial settlementRelease only the adjustment allocated to the settled portion; the remaining item keeps its carrying basis for the next run.
- Correct locked rates carefullyReverse or supersede the affected run through the approved path and retain its used-rate version. A later rate correction does not rewrite posted history.
- Respect periodsA reversal or correction needs an eligible posting period. Hard-close restrictions and any approved reopening remain in force.

Process reports
All reportsAR Aging
Open invoices in buckets of days past due by customer and entity, in transaction currency and posted functional carrying value, with a separate indicative current-rate column; the booked column reconciles to the AR control account.
AP Aging
Open bills in buckets of days past due by vendor, entity and currency, feeding the pay-run schedule and the forecast of foreign-currency cash needs.
Trial Balance
All GL accounts per entity per period with opening balance, debit and credit movement and closing balance in functional currency, with a reporting-currency column at the period's translation rates; drills from summary account to account to source journal lines.
Balance Sheet
Assets, liabilities and equity rolled up per entity and consolidated, comparative to prior period and prior year, in functional or reporting currency, with the fixed-asset roll-forward as a supporting schedule.
Consolidation Worksheet
Per account, one column per entity in reporting currency from the translated balances, an eliminations column, a non-controlling interest column and the consolidated column, for a locked or calculated run; each elimination drills to the entry and the transaction it removes.
FX Gain and Loss Summary
Posted residual settlement and bank-disposal FX plus posted revaluation FX, per entity, currency and period. RevaluationReleased is a carrying-value allocation and is not added to P&L again; any optional lifetime presentation identifies previous-period recognised FX separately.
Foreign Currency Exposure
Net open position per entity per foreign currency: receivables plus bank balances plus intercompany receivables less payables, loans and intercompany payables, in the foreign currency, at booked functional value and at today's rate, so the treasurer knows what is unhedged before the pay run.
Budget vs Actual
Per account per cost center, budget, actual, variance and variance percent for period, quarter-to-date and year-to-date, in entity currency or translated at the budget rate for the group view.
Intercompany Reconciliation
Every entity pair and currency for the period with each side's balance, the difference and the agreement status, drillable to the transactions in the period with both entities' booked amounts, so the consolidation cannot start with an unexplained difference.
Agent support
An agent cannot approve a revaluation, authorise payment, confirm an intercompany transaction for the receiving entity or sign off a close. It cannot bypass limits, entity access or separation of duties. Preparation remains distinct from the human approval required to release or post the work. Test those restrictions during implementation and retain the agent identity in the audit trail.
