Network stock operations

Teams that carry replacement network items need a consistent link between the thing in stock and the work at a site. A stock item supplies code, base unit and tracking mode. A lot records the quantity at a location. The work order then names the item and requested scope; the port assignment can refer to a lot as well as a device and VLAN.

How Network Inventory Management is set up for you

Item identity

Use Active Stock Items to confirm the code and unit that staff will use in work orders.

Location context

Compare the lot's location with the asset named for the job before a request goes to review.

Held assignment

Record the intended port and lot on the parent work order with an expiry date.

Evidence trail

Follow the authorized scope through posted evidence and verification receipts.

Teams that carry replacement network items need a consistent link between the thing in stock and the work at a site. A stock item supplies code, base unit and tracking mode. A lot records the quantity at a location. The work order then names the item and requested scope; the port assignment can refer to a lot as well as a device and VLAN.

Begin with one item category and one active site. Review the item's base unit, available lot and location. Create a work order for a known replacement task, with an owner and due date. Have the clerk make a held port assignment and ask the supervisor to compare its quantity and lot with the parent scope.

After the decision, record actual work evidence and reconcile completion. Test a mismatch between posted quantity and authorized units; the failed receipt should keep the source unchanged. Then correct the underlying entry through the supported evidence path and repeat reconciliation. The auditor should be able to see both attempts and the current result from the work order. Keep item and lot upkeep separate from the human decision to authorize a network port assignment.
