Who it's for

Internal IT

Internal IT teams need to know which asset received which patch and how the work affected a service. The catalog identifies the release, while each attempt records what happened on a particular asset. Change records give the team a scheduled window, risk assessment and rollback plan before work begins. Service Owners can review the outcome without assuming every device in the service ended in the same state.

How Patch Management System is set up for you

Service ownership

Connect each asset to its service and keep a person responsible for reviewing impact.

Work windows

Record the planned start and end on the change, then the actual installation dates on each attempt.

Exception review

Keep failed and rolled back attempts visible for the next cycle.

Start with one service and a small set of assigned assets. Load the intended patch releases into the catalog, check product and version labels, and agree which changes require review. Rehearse an ordinary verified attempt and a failed attempt on a different asset. Compare the attempt outcomes with the service's change record and make sure the team can explain a difference between planned timing and actual execution.

Include an incident rehearsal if an installation affects availability. The Incident Responder should name the service and asset, record the response timeline and assign the work. If the underlying cause needs more time, the Problem Analyst can keep a separate investigation open after immediate service restoration. Once these handoffs are clear, extend to other services and connections that provide patch or event data.
