What you can do

Record what was seen in the field

A Field Operator records an observation against a named field with an observation date, type, value, unit and notes. That structure helps Farm Manager distinguish a measured value from a general comment. It also makes the same observation type comparable over time when the team uses a consistent unit and collection method.

A scouting entry belongs to the field. The manager reads it alongside the crop cycle and current field work when deciding whether to schedule inspection, irrigation or feeding. The observation itself does not issue a task; a manager records a task with an owner and due date when action is needed.

How the work is organized

  • Dated reading. Record when the observation was made, not merely when someone later reviewed it.
  • Measured value. Keep the value and unit together, with notes explaining the context.
  • Field reference. Link every observation to the plot that was inspected.

What to agree during setup

Agree the names used for observation types and which units the team uses for each type. A value of 20 means little without its unit and a clear observation type. Decide who enters readings, how duplicate visits are distinguished, and which notes the manager needs before authorizing additional work. If readings originate from a separate sensing system, establish how they enter the field record with their original date and unit.

For example, an operator visits a planted field and records a soil reading and a note about conditions. The manager compares that entry with earlier observations for the same field, checks the crop’s stage and then creates an irrigation or inspection task if the record calls for follow-up. The task carries its own approval and completion status.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Record two observations of the same type on a field at different dates. Give each a value and unit, then inspect the observation list. Confirm the field reference, order and units. Open each source record and read the note before planning work. Next add an observation on a different field and confirm it does not appear in the first field’s history.

When a value looks unusual, the operator should check the source and unit before the manager treats it as a reason to change the work plan. Keep the original dated observation available if a later visit provides a corrected or more complete reading.

What your team sees

  • Recent field observations — Review dated types, values, units and notes for the selected field.
  • Crop cycles in progress — Read the field’s current crop stage while interpreting the observation.
  • Active field work board — Find tasks created after a field review.
