Review and implement changes

Take attributed engineering scope through review, approval and controlled implementation.

Step by step

  1. Prepare change Product Engineer

Product Engineer records the change number, product, old and new revisions and intended effective date. Gather source evidence explaining why the transition is needed and confirm the design basis before asking the reviewer to decide.

    • Describe the intended revision
    • Updates Engineering changes, Items, Design documents
  2. Submit for review Product Engineer

Product Engineer invokes the change action on eligible Draft scope. Valid attributed input moves to Review. Invalid, duplicate and already-completed requests receive a reasoned refusal. Inspect that reason and resolve the actual scope before preparing another submission.

    • Draft to Review after validation
    • Updates Engineering changes
  3. Review change Engineering Reviewer

Engineering Reviewer examines the submitted basis and approves the request, moving it from Review to Approved. Agree how a declined request is handled during setup. Product Engineer resolves questions about the source before the reviewer makes a decision.

    • Review to Approved after decision
    • Updates Engineering changes
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  4. Implement change Product Engineer

Product Engineer applies the approved scope and checks that it is marked Implemented. Inspect the change identity and result together. Replay a completed request to confirm that the same scope cannot be applied again.

    • Approved to Implemented
    • Updates Engineering changes
  5. Inspect the operating handoff Production Planner

Production Planner reviews the refreshed work-order detail and engineering-change screen. Confirm the manufacturing instruction basis with engineering before releasing affected work. Agree how the intended effective date is followed up and who resolves an operating disagreement.

    • Inspect refreshed operating context
    • Updates Work orders, Engineering changes

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • The product or revision basis differs from the source the reviewer examined.
  • Approved scope is described as implemented before the action succeeds.
  • Engineering and production use different instructions when preparing affected work.
