Post lot-based materials

Deduct eligible free stock for the selected item and lot exactly once.

Step by step

  1. Prepare issue scope Inventory Controller

Inventory Controller selects the intended item and work order with the lot, quantity and issue date. Confirm the material unit against the source before submitting Draft scope. Resolve inconsistent input while the issue is still being prepared.

    • Identify material and operating scope
    • Updates Material issues, Items, Work orders
  2. Resolve the eligible balance Inventory Controller

Inventory Controller inspects the matching balance for the same item and lot. Location distinguishes records sharing a lot label. Confirm the eligible identity used by the action before comparing available stock or explaining the deduction.

    • Select exact eligible stock identity
    • Updates Inventory balances
  3. Validate free stock Inventory Controller

Inventory Controller invokes the issue action. The work order must be Released or in progress, and eligible stock must cover the requested quantity after reservations are subtracted from on-hand. A refused issue retains an explainable problem for the inventory team to resolve.

    • Check free quantity and operating state
    • Updates Inventory balances, Work orders
  4. Post the issue Inventory Controller

Success marks the issue Posted and reduces exactly the eligible balance once. Inspect the posting and changed stock together. Replay the same action and verify that it preserves the original deduction without consuming stock again.

    • Set Posted and deduct once
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances
  5. Reconcile an exception Inventory Controller

Inventory Controller reviews refused scope and unchanged stock, then resolves the cause through the authorized action. Agree the correction procedure during setup and retain the original posting evidence when investigating a later mistake.

    • Inspect refusal or correction needs
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • On-hand quantity is compared with the request before reservations are subtracted.
  • Matching lot labels hide different locations or the wrong item identity.
  • A repeated action changes stock again after the original issue succeeded.
  • A correction loses the original posting basis and leaves the balance unexplained.
