What you can do

Follow the conversation behind the status

An opportunity status is easier to trust when the underlying relationship work is visible. Relationship activities record calls, meetings, emails and tasks against the parent opportunity. An activity can have a due date, completion date and outcome, and its line number and revision distinguish it from other entries. The Relationship Owner uses these records to show what happened between the initial conversation, proposal, negotiation and final outcome.

Qualification also appends activity evidence. When an owner says a New opportunity is Qualified, the recorded reason and activity explain the change to the Sales Manager. Activities remain attached to the parent engagement, so a listing review can follow the trail without copying notes into the listing itself. Tasks with due dates can be reviewed separately from completed conversations.

How the work is organized

  • One parent. Every activity belongs to the opportunity that prompted the call, meeting, email or task.
  • Dated follow-up. Due and completion dates show when work was expected and when it happened.
  • Recorded outcome. The outcome field carries the result of a conversation or task, rather than leaving a status change unexplained.

What to agree during setup

Agree the minimum note for a qualification call, a seller meeting and a proposal follow-up. Decide who closes a task and how to use the outcome field when a meeting is rescheduled. Tell staff whether to record internal coordination as a task or a meeting, so the activity list remains readable. Prepare the source opportunity and its owner before adding activities, since the parent link is required.

A useful rehearsal includes a due task that was completed, a due task still open and a qualification activity with a retain reason. The Relationship Owner and Sales Manager should be able to trace each to the same opportunity. If an activity is corrected, its revision makes the changed entry identifiable.

Check the handoff on an actual case

A Relationship Owner speaks with a seller about a property’s asking price, logs the call, and creates a task for the owner authorization file. The task receives a due date. When the signed file arrives, the owner marks the task complete and records the outcome, then uploads the file to the opportunity. The owner qualifies the engagement with the retain reason and later records a proposal meeting. During review, the Sales Manager can see the activity dates, the uploaded authorization and the submitted listing revision together. If the owner never received the file, the open task stays visible; the manager does not infer authorization from a completed call.

What your team sees

  • Relationship Activity Timeline — Due activities by parent opportunity, type, completion date and outcome.
  • Opportunities Overview — Engagements where the owner can open the underlying activity trail.

Follow the work through

Opportunity qualification turns early activity into a stage decision. Customer outcome closes the engagement after the result is verified.
