Component plants
A component operation can use an in-process inspection at the point where a quality decision is needed. The inspection's subject reference identifies the work. Inspector records each requirement and result, then sends the complete case for Quality Reviewer decision. This gives a later cause investigation the actual check and observation that started it.
How Automotive QMS is set up for you
Work at the point of check
In-process inspection distinguishes this case from incoming, final or service work.
Review with evidence
Required check attachments and results are complete before submission to Review.
Contained issue
Rejected scope is linked to a nonconformance whose severity and status show immediate handling.
Effectiveness test
The action owner completes the approved response; a separate reviewer judges whether it worked.
A component operation can use an in-process inspection at the point where a quality decision is needed. The inspection's subject reference identifies the work. Inspector records each requirement and result, then sends the complete case for Quality Reviewer decision. This gives a later cause investigation the actual check and observation that started it.
Pick one process step and write a clear subject reference convention. Decide which requirement results need attachments and who reviews a failed case. Put a known failure through in progress, Review and Rejected. The Quality Reviewer links a nonconformance and starts containment. Corrective Action Owner documents cause, action and due date. Review the planned action before implementation.
A later relevant inspection can supply evidence for the effectiveness discussion. The reviewer should compare that result with the original failure and decide whether the action can close. The team should agree how it records that decision in the action and parent issue. If a gauge study belongs to the case, link the reading to that same inspection and check the sample, trial and value before Review.
Features to start with
Inspections
Plan incoming, in-process, final and service inspections, retain each check and send a complete case for review.
Nonconformances
Link a rejected inspection to severity, containment and the issue that corrective action must resolve.
Corrective actions
Keep cause, approved action, due date and independent effectiveness review tied to a nonconformance.
Roles on the team
