Board assembly
Board assembly teams need to identify which board and location a quality observation concerns. A board defect records serial, revision, reference designator and defect code, then points to the inspection that supplied the operating context. A reviewer can read the board observation beside the inspection checks before choosing a disposition.
How QMS for Electronics Manufacturing is set up for you
Inspect the work
Use an in process inspection for the identified subject and assign it to the person who will record the checks. Keep the scheduled date and subject reference recognizable to production and quality.
Capture the defect
Record the board serial and revision with the reference designator and code. The same location label on another revision can mean different physical scope.
Make the decision
Submit the attributed board record for Review. Quality Reviewer can choose Rework, Scrap or Accepted and inspect any linked failed check before handling the broader inspection outcome.
Follow rejected scope
Failed checks lead to a linked nonconformance in Containment when the inspection enters Review, then to a corrective action owned by a named person.
Board assembly teams need to identify which board and location a quality observation concerns. A board defect records serial, revision, reference designator and defect code, then points to the inspection that supplied the operating context. A reviewer can read the board observation beside the inspection checks before choosing a disposition.
Start with a single assembly area and an inspection type the team already uses. Choose a small set of requirements whose outcomes can be observed directly, then agree the evidence expected for Fail. Decide how the board serial and revision will be read from the physical board or production record. Agree a defect-code convention that inspectors can apply consistently and that reviewers can understand without translating private shorthand.
Rehearse one board that passes its checks and another with a defect at a known reference designator. Inspector should be able to submit the latter for review with the correct board identity. Quality Reviewer should be able to open its inspection, understand the failed requirement and record the board disposition. Before rejecting the inspection, confirm the contained nonconformance points back to the same subject.
Expand the scope after the team can follow that one path without losing the board identity. Reports can then show defect codes and dispositions by revision, while the operational record remains available for any individual case that needs investigation.
Features to start with
Nonconformances
Tie failed inspection scope to containment, investigation and a reviewed disposition.
Board defects
Attribute a defect to the board and inspection before the reviewer chooses its disposition.
Corrective actions
Preserve the root cause, approved action and independent effectiveness decision.
