Board and ESD evidence

A board defect and an ESD reading both point to an inspection, but they answer different questions. The board record identifies the serial, revision, location and defect code. The ESD record captures the workstation, measured resistance and limits in force for that check. Each needs its own review path when the observation requires action.

Step by step

  1. Choose the operational record Inspector

Inspector selects the inspection that gives the observation its subject and assignee context.

    • Attach the observation to an inspection
    • Updates Inspections, Board defects, ESD checks
  2. Capture board identity Inspector

For a board defect, Inspector records serial, revision, reference designator and defect code. The case is submitted at Review for the responsible reviewer.

    • Preserve board identity and defect location
    • Updates Board defects
  3. Capture workstation reading Inspector

For an ESD check, Inspector records workstation, check date, resistance and both limits. An in-limits reading remains Pass.

    • Preserve resistance and recorded limits
    • Updates ESD checks
  4. Contain a failed reading Quality Reviewer

An out-of-limits reading is Fail and goes to Quality Reviewer for containment. The original measurement and limits stay visible.

    • Route Fail for quality review
    • Updates ESD checks, Inspections, Nonconformances
  5. Decide board disposition Quality Reviewer

Quality Reviewer checks the attributed board evidence and approves Rework, Scrap or Accepted as the disposition. The reviewer considers the related inspection and any failed check before choosing.

    • Set the reviewed board outcome
    • Updates Board defects, Inspections
